Hailing from Vermont, Mason dedicated himself to his food education and was awarded the second highest James Beard Scholarship in the country, which he used to attend the New England Culinary Institute. After earning his diploma in 2002, he embarked on a career that led him to Montana in 2008. He has helped open some of Bozeman’s favorite restaurants – including 14 North, Midtown Tavern, Barley & Vine and Revelry – and got a taste for ranch life as the Executive Chef at Crazy Mountain Ranch in Clyde Park. If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying his creations, you can see him create on the fly in two episodes of Guy’s Grocery Games – both of which he wins! Having grown up on a small farm, Mason finds creativity even with the simplest of ingredients; showcasing local and foraged goods is his true culinary passion. During the summer months, you can find Mason foraging for chanterelles, picking huckleberries and fiddleheads, or throwing a round or two of disc golf. In the winter he is usually found on the ski hill or playing hockey.
