Fox tries to intimidate Drudge with lawsuit threat |
As a follow-up to yesterday's
comments... According to Washington Post staff writer Howard Kurtz in a November 17 story, Matt Drudge was "told that he could not brandish a picture of a 21-week-old fetus" on his Fox Network talk show. Kurtz' choice of the word "brandish" is interesting. You normally think of someone "brandishing" a weapon, don't you. Brandishing a picture? Must be quite a picture. It is quite a picture -- a picture of a surgeon performing a very difficult operation on a young child -- a child still in his mother's womb. The image clearly shows the baby's hand reaching out of the incision in his mother's womb and grasping one of the doctor's gloved fingers. And what the so-called journalists at Fox find so disturbing about this is that such a picture cries out more eloquently and succinctly than any human words that abortion is nothing but a modern, high-tech way of doing what wicked societies have always done and tolerated. Child killing is not a new thing in this world, and only our willful stupidity makes us think that somehow we're doing something different because instead of dropping newly birthed children into ponds or exposing them on city walls we've found techniques for reaching into the protection of the womb to poison them or tear them apart. A picture such as the one Matt Drudge wants to "brandish" before the American people is threatening because it's the kind of thing that makes us face our folly. Yes, Fox is threatening to attack Drudge in the courts if he won't apologize to them. Drudge is holding his ground. By the way, you won't hear it from Fox (They'll only report things they want you to decide about), but the child's name, according to the Irish Independent, is Samuel Alexander Armas and he is due to be born December 28. Pray for him and his parents, Julie and Alex Armas. PB 11/17/1999 Send someone a link to this page? |
